What fits in a 10-yard dumpster

  • Contents of a one-car garage or a large shed
  • A small bathroom gut: vanity, toilet, tile and drywall
  • Old carpet and pad from a few rooms
  • A small deck (roughly up to 150–200 sq ft of boards)
  • Heavy material like dirt, rock, brick or broken concrete, where weight fills the container long before volume does

These are rough rules of thumb from typical household projects. Actual capacity depends on how well the load is broken down and packed.

When it’s the right size

The 10-yard is the smallest common roll-off and the easiest to place. It takes up about the space of a parked car, so it fits on narrow driveways in older parts of Gardnerville and Minden or tucked beside a garage. It’s also the size most haulers prefer for heavy, dense debris. A box of concrete or dirt hits the hauler’s weight allowance quickly, and a smaller container keeps you from overloading it.

When to choose a different size

If you’re clearing a whole house or tearing off a roof, a 10-yard usually means paying for a second haul. Step up to a 15-yard or 20-yard.

Weight, pricing and availability

Every hauler sets its own weight allowance and overage rules for each container size. We don’t publish a weight limit here because it depends on the hauler serving your address, so ask when you call.
