What fits in a 30-yard dumpster
- New construction or an addition’s framing and packaging waste
- Gutting several rooms or a whole floor
- Large estate or hoarding cleanouts with lots of furniture
- Demolishing a detached garage, shed or large deck (non-masonry)
- Bulky, light material like brush, lumber and cabinets in volume
These are rough rules of thumb from typical household projects. Actual capacity depends on how well the load is broken down and packed.
When it’s the right size
The 30-yard has taller walls and serves contractors and big residential projects. It’s best for bulky, light debris. Because it’s large, it needs a long, straight approach for the truck and a firm surface, so it’s a better match for a job site or a wide driveway than a tight cul-de-sac.
When to choose a different size
Don’t use a 30-yard for roofing or concrete unless the hauler specifically approves it, since heavy loads in a tall box can go over the weight allowance fast. For roofs, a 20-yard is often the better fit.
Weight, pricing and availability
Every hauler sets its own weight allowance and overage rules for each container size. We don’t publish a weight limit here because it depends on the hauler serving your address, so ask when you call.
