What fits in a 15-yard dumpster
- A kitchen or single-room remodel (cabinets, counters, drywall, flooring)
- A small single-layer roof tear-off on a modest home or garage
- A two-car garage or basement cleanout
- Old fencing from a typical backyard run
- Furniture and boxes from a downsizing move
These are rough rules of thumb from typical household projects. Actual capacity depends on how well the load is broken down and packed.
When it’s the right size
The 15-yard is a middle ground. It holds noticeably more than a 10-yard without taking much more driveway, and it’s a good fit when the debris is a mix of bulky and heavy, like a remodel where you’ve got cabinets and tile. Many homeowners who aren’t sure between 10 and 20 land here.
When to choose a different size
For heavy loads like all-concrete or all-dirt, a 10-yard is often the better choice because weight, not volume, is the limit. For a whole-house job, look at the 20-yard.
Weight, pricing and availability
Every hauler sets its own weight allowance and overage rules for each container size. We don’t publish a weight limit here because it depends on the hauler serving your address, so ask when you call.
