Remodels create a steady stream of debris: cabinets, countertops, drywall, tile, flooring and the packaging that new materials arrive in. Having a roll-off on site keeps the work area clear and safer for everyone.
Size tips
- Bathroom remodel: 10-yard
- Kitchen or one-room remodel: 15-yard
- Multi-room or flooring throughout the house: 20-yard
- Gutting a floor or adding on: 30-yard
Remodel-specific things to know
- Tile, mortar and plaster are heavy. A bathroom gut can weigh more than its volume suggests. Tell the hauler what’s going in.
- Older homes and asbestos. Some older flooring, drywall texture, insulation and siding may contain asbestos. Don’t tear it out and toss it in a roll-off without testing. The EPA’s asbestos guidance explains why.
- Leftover paint and adhesives generally aren’t accepted. See what can’t go in a dumpster.
- Contractors: if you’re running the job, ask about swaps so the box doesn’t sit full while crews wait.
